Here is some of the main stuff going on in town this summer. It is not everything as there are teams and camps popping up more and more now. Do your research and ask around before jumping into something new. With lacrosse still being a new sport the saturation effect is starting to show in some places.
Laxville: http://laxteams.net/laxville/
- Tryouts are 29th-31st
Team Stickhead: http://stickheadusa.com/team-stickhead/
- Tryouts start tomorrow (23rd)
Bluegrass Bats: http://www.bluegrassbats.com/5601.html
- Tryouts were the 21st. If you missed and want to be part of the program, I suggest contacting them immediately. I can provide an assessment of any of the players to their coaches.
Stickhead Summer League: http://stickheadusa.com/2012/05/11/summer-league-lacrosse-starts-june-13th/
- Boy’s/Men’s leagues play on wednesday nights starting june 13.
- This is just play with no coaching. Good, simple way to stay active.
Local Camps
- Trilogy: http://www.trilogylacrosse.com/camps2012
o Good sleep away camp. Lots of lacrosse instruction and play - Rhino: http://rhinolacrosse.com/academies/day-academies/louisville-ky-june-11-14/
o Solid line up of coaches if they all make it in. - Razor: http://www.razorlacrosse.com/index.php/camps.html
o Been a staple in Louisville for years. They do a solid job - River City: http://rivercitysportsarena.com/Lacrosse.html
o Multiple different camps and leagues going on all summer.
o My only caution is to beware of the saturation effect. Most of the time their leagues come with little to no instruction. They also run camps with very little outside talent providing instruction (if you notice on most of their camps there is no main instructor listed).
Exercise
- I will provide a skeleton work out plan that you are welcome to follow. It includes little to no weights and a lot of body weight work which makes it suitable for all ages and fitness levels. The important parts to staying in shape is consistency and diet. A workout plan does not work if you take weeks off here and there. It is important to stay active and not take more than a couple days off anytime.
Bottom line
- If you’re active and playing lacrosse you are going to improve. However it is also important to be versatile. I think the best athletes are those that can draw from multiple sources and have a large skill set. it is ok to take a break for a bit but keep that stick close. Sometimes the best way to improve is to head to a park with a group of friends and just play around.
